Voting is Insufficient

Voting is Insufficient

Voting is insufficient. Voting is necessary.

If your theory of change rests solely or primary on voting, hopelessness may be waiting for you, my friend, when the world continues to groan and shudder under the weights of violence and alienation no matter who or what wins. If your theory of change lacks voting, you have rejected a crucial leverage point for making love and liberation in solidarity with the oppressed.

So vote. And then breathe deep when the world continues to be the world, so beautiful and terrible. Remember that we have thousands of years of tightly tangled fear, prejudice, greed, shame and propensities to violence woven through our hearts, homes, workplaces, policies, and landscapes, and that the world we seek will take generations, will break out in a flash, and peak through in blessed moments around the dinner table.

Vote. Breathe. And step into the next moment and the next and the next of being human together in all the subtle, radical ways required for peace, joy, and justice.
